Chandigarh Civic Body to ask Chandigarh Authorities to increase property tax by 12%

The Municipal corporation will recommend an growth of 12 percent in real estate tax and imposition of real estate tax on commercial properties in the 13 newly-added villages to the UT administrations even though its general flats had rejected the two agenda items.

Sources in the MC told the officials have already discussed the matter with the local persons department of the UT administration and apprised them with the constructions that took place during the discussion in the general flats.

The Municipal corporation has completed the paper work in this regard and will send the file to the UT in the next coming week.

"As the Municipal corporation has kept the significant price in its income generation segment through a real estate tax on both commercial and residential properties, it is really crucial for us to earn tax through this route for construction works. Although, since we have growth the commercial real estate tax price recently, the residential property tax also required to be enhanced, "said a senior official of the Municipal Corporation.

In the case of the newly-added 13 villages in the Municipal Corportation from chandigarh administration, the tax branch of the Municipal corporation has already started a survey in these locations, there was no requirement to impose any kind of property tax.

Although, the Municipal commissioner has said the engineering department has been preparing a developmental plan and since these villages are part of the Municipal Corporation, the imposition of a tax is required and there could be the discussion on the price to be decided.
